Other players dropped from the squad are Rowen Fernandez, Innocent Mdledle, Bryce Moon and Franklin Cale.
Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira would not comment on why the players were left out, but he said selection was based on various factors including fitness.
The Brazilian added that the SA side would aim to progress as far as possible at the soccer spectacle. "Our goal is to go as far as we can. When the ball is moving anything can happen.".
Parreira said he wished he could keep all 30 of the original squad.
He said the players had a mission to make the country proud. "We are ready to make you proud and appreciate all the support."
Parreira said an extra member of the squad was the vuvuzela. "We need the vuvuzelas, we need a lot of noise."
